GP / Community

General practitioners (GPs) are for most people the first port of call when they are unwell or injured. GPs see a huge range of patients and cannot be expected to be experts in all areas. However, they have to be able to treat patients to a reasonable standard, and if they lack the expertise, to refer them on to appropriate specialists.

Care provided in the community also comes from district nurses, midwives and therapists, such as physiotherapists.

Claims against GPs and other community providers often arise as a result of a delay in diagnosis, or a failure to refer a patient to a specialist. Not getting the right diagnosis or treatment can have severe consequences and can result in a worsening of the condition and further injury.

If you have concerns about the treatment you have received, contact one of our solicitors, who can help you to find out what has happened and whether you may have a clinical negligence claim.
