26th November 2018 is an important date when it comes to Stamp Duty Land Tax (SDLT)

In the 2015 Autumn Statement the Government brought in the higher rate of stamp duty for purchases of ‘additional residential properties’ which came into effect on 1st April 2016.

In 2016 there were transitional provisions installed into the legislation which will now end on 26th November 2018.

Buyers who have previously sold their main home (or disposed of any major interest) or last lived in their main home before 26th November 2015 who are now purchasing a replacement main home will need to complete their purchase of their new main residence before 26th November 2018 if they are to escape the 3 % surcharge.
